Angus Mackay's Last Strathspey, by Stephen Gamble

Angus Mackay (1812 - 1859) was Household Piper to Queen Victoria. He was born on Raasay, an island off the northwest coast of Scotland, so becoming Piper to the Queen was quite a journey both personally and geographically.

He sadly drowned in the River Nith after escaping from the Crichton Institute in Dumfries, having been hospitalised there suffering from insanity.

This Melody is inspired by seeing the place where he drowned and reading of his history.
