.Sonata Concitato, Temperato e Molle (Solo Violin Sonata No 4) Back in 2004 I read about Monteverdi’s (1565 – 1643) theory that music could be divided into three categories, Concitato (agitated), Temperato (moderate), and Molle (calm) and thought I would have a go at writing a solo violin sonata with this in mind. The agitation can be either ‘tragic’ or, as in the case of the music I wrote, ‘excited’. The Temperato section is influenced by Old Time American folk music, perhaps imagine Monteverdi on the veranda of a log cabin playing a fiddle. The music is rather hard to play so this is an electronic realisation. The picture is of the North York Moors.
