This piece of music was inspired by ‘Tombeau des Regrets’ by the French Baroque composer, Sainte Colombe - not so much the music of that piece, which is wonderful, but rather the title, which I found intriguing. In English ‘Tombeau des Regrets’ means ‘The Tomb of Regrets’, which I initially thought sounded terribly miserable, then it occurred to me that burying one’s regrets rather than living with them might be quite a liberating and joyful thing, even if painful. So I hope my entombing of regrets manages to catch sorrow and pain as well as a sense of hard won peace. Illness having robbed me of my job, home and health these past two years I inevitably have painful regrets, but they should not be allowed to define my future.
This piece is dedicated to Lucy Alessio @Luci_Alessio in grateful thanks of her encouragement of new music in general, and my music in particular.
Electronically generated violin.
