Rudland Rigg is a pathway across the North Yorkshire Moors. It climbs up high onto the moor-tops, a bleak and open landscape covered only in heather and rough grasses.
Horizons are far off, distant beyond manifold hilltops and falling green dales. The sky is a constant drama of changing cloud patterns.
Despite the isolation and unrelenting harshness of this landscape, it is beautiful and causes my heart joy, and my frame a great rush of energy.
The musical ideas for ‘On Rudland Rigg’ were noted down after a walk on the Rigg, and developed over time.
