The Drift is an old droving road that passes through the village of Pickworth in Rutland. Farmers drove their cattle along the lane to markets as far away as London, but the route fell into disuse with the coming of the railways. Pickworth itself is only a collection of a few houses and farms, the once thriving village dwindled as the Drift fell out of use, and the local lime industry declined. The remains of a Medieval village can be seen in the uneven shapes of the fields. The poet John Clare lived in Pickworth for a while. Sometimes history cares to leave only a few traces.
The beginnings of this music came to be on the Drift, then were sketched on a piece of paper, and finally written down when my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome took a short break.
The violin sound is electronically generated.
Opps! - that F in the last but one bar should be a C (5th up)
