The Curiosity of a Child and the Patience of Her Mother.

Overheard in a cafe: a small child asking a sequence of about 20 'why' questions - which the mother answered with admirable diligence and patience. In a just few more 'whys' they would undoubtedly have gotten to the root of all things, but the child diverted into a lengthy and detailed discourse on why she should have another biscuit. Ultimately unsuccessful in her plea she circled then back to the 'why' questions, but was cut short - this time by father arriving to collect them. It seems there are deep matters that Providence determinedly veils from our sight.
